SOROPTIMISTS ATTEND CAPABILITY ENHANCEMENT TRAINING

To enhance their capability in safeguarding women and girls against the perils of human trafficking brought about by illegal recruitment, 67 Club Presidents and members of Soroptimist International of the Philippines Region (A Foundation) Inc. (SIPR) participated in the Capability Enhancement Training conducted by the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Friday, January 30, 2009. Twenty-seven clubs were represented in the workshop coming from as far as Baguio City in Northern Luzon to Albay in Southern Luzon and Antique in the Visayas.

The workshop was designed to equip Soroptimists with comprehensive information on the government’s overseas employment program to help them in strengthening the Soroptimist STOP Trafficking campaign in target communities.

SIPR and POEA are partners in the drive against the trafficking of women and girls, particularly as this stems from illegal recruitment.

Among the participants were SIPR Governor Carmen A. Flor, MMNW District Director Flery Marcelo and club presidents Rita Alfonso, Rida Aznar, Joyce Anderson, Josephine Iki, Bing Feliciano,Bing Felix, Lita Hizon, Mary Jazul, Carmencita Moreno, Mila Naval, Baby Ocampo, Gina Patena, Jeannie Sandoval, Carmen Soingco, Mercy Sta. Maria, Tess Valdez and Marilee Victorio.

Soroptimist is an international organization of professional and business women who volunteer in community projects to improve the lives of women and girls. It has 78 clubs in the Philippines and is headed by Governor Carmen A. Flor. The Chair of Soroptimist STOP Trafficking is Bing R. Grande.
